Sins of The Mother a huge SUCCESS!!

Wall Street Journal Review is in for SINS OF THE MOTHER! "...one that in a better-regulated world would now be playing on Broadway." And the praise keeps on coming! Sins of the Mother was developed by the Barefoot Theatre Company along with The Actor's Studio and LAByrinth Theater Company. The current production at Florida Stage is part of our 70/70 Horovitz Project.
Sins of the Mother was also featured at The Gloucester Stage Company in August of 2009 as part of our worldwide festival.

Barefoot at Brooklyn College

Last year, Barefoot members paid a visit to Brooklyn College to read and workshop a play for visiting High School juniors. It was such a success that this year we were asked back.
On Wednesday, February 3rd, Associate Director Michael LoPorto, Literary Manager Stephen Gracia, and Barefoot actors Kendra Leigh Landon and Dan Graff treated the juniors of the prestigious Brooklyn Latin high school to an open rehearsal of Stephen's original short play "Boondock Brooklyn." The play was read through once, Michael gave notes to the actors, and the play was read through again, giving the students a glimpse into a typical rehearsal process. Once again, it was a hit!

"Boondock Brooklyn" received its first public performance (with a slightly more...provocative title) during the 2nd bareNaked Reading on December 19th 2008. Directed by Michael LoPorto, it featured company members Kendra Leigh Landon and Will Allen.

Elmwood Community Playhouse in Nyack has been a vital entity in our community for 63 years, and is stronger than ever. Officially an “Off Off Broadway” theater, we are entering a new level of community involvement with our current fund raiser, “Man In Snow”; an AMERICAN PREMIER of the play, written by the world renowned American playwright, ISRAEL HOROVITZ. This is the first time this play has been presented in the United States, and the first time on stage anywhere. Performance dates are Friday and Saturday, February 12, 13, at 8PM, and Sunday the 14th at 7 pm. Tickets are available through the web site, elmwoodplayhouse.com or by calling 845-353-1313

"Man In Snow” was written by Mr. Horovitz in 2001 as a radio play for the BBC, and won the prestigous Sony Radio Academy Award in that year for best drama. This is a brilliant drama about a more than middle aged man climbing MT. Mc Kinley, while “babysitting” Japanese tourists, and getting the best connection ever with his wife of 40 years over his cell phone. Funny, smart, romantic, dramatic, and at times tense, director Bernie Garzia, has assembled a cast of excellent actors to present this piece, drawing from Elmwood’s rich and diverse family of talent that it’s membership represents.

This production of “Man In Snow’ is Elmwood Playhouse’s proud contribution to the 70 / 70 Horovitz Project, sponsored by the Barefoot Theatre Company in Manhattan. The Barefoot Theatre Company leads over 50 theater companies from around the globe including: France, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Scandinavia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, Romania, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Israel and the United States of America with readings, staged readings and fully staged productions of 70 plays by Israel Horovitz in honor of his turning 70 in March, 2009.
