Elmwood Community Playhouse in Nyack has been a vital entity in our community for 63 years, and is stronger than ever. Officially an “Off Off Broadway” theater, we are entering a new level of community involvement with our current fund raiser, “Man In Snow”; an AMERICAN PREMIER of the play, written by the world renowned American playwright, ISRAEL HOROVITZ. This is the first time this play has been presented in the United States, and the first time on stage anywhere. Performance dates are Friday and Saturday, February 12, 13, at 8PM, and Sunday the 14th at 7 pm. Tickets are available through the web site, elmwoodplayhouse.com or by calling 845-353-1313

"Man In Snow” was written by Mr. Horovitz in 2001 as a radio play for the BBC, and won the prestigous Sony Radio Academy Award in that year for best drama. This is a brilliant drama about a more than middle aged man climbing MT. Mc Kinley, while “babysitting” Japanese tourists, and getting the best connection ever with his wife of 40 years over his cell phone. Funny, smart, romantic, dramatic, and at times tense, director Bernie Garzia, has assembled a cast of excellent actors to present this piece, drawing from Elmwood’s rich and diverse family of talent that it’s membership represents.

This production of “Man In Snow’ is Elmwood Playhouse’s proud contribution to the 70 / 70 Horovitz Project, sponsored by the Barefoot Theatre Company in Manhattan. The Barefoot Theatre Company leads over 50 theater companies from around the globe including: France, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, Scandinavia, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, Romania, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Israel and the United States of America with readings, staged readings and fully staged productions of 70 plays by Israel Horovitz in honor of his turning 70 in March, 2009.
